The American Physical Society (APS) plans to change its name to the American Physics Society to improve its recognition among students, the government and the general public.The society's executive board has agreed to change the name, with which it has been known for 106 years, and now its 40 000 plus members have until 19 August to express their feelings on the matter via a special website.Of the members who have already stated their opinion, three out of four back the change.
